Access to Work - How Bridge Can Help

Access to Work (AtW) is a government initiative designed to offer guidance and financial assistance to individuals facing work-related challenges as a result of a disability such as physical or mental health conditions.

A grant to cover practical support related to your employment.

• Assistance in managing mental health in the workplace.
• Financial resources to secure communication support during job interviews

The Access to Work program may provide financial assistance to facilitate your professional endeavoors, including support for the following areas:

• Acquisition of specialised equipment and assistive technology software
• Employment of support personnel, such as a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, job coach, or travel companion
• Transportation expenses associated with commuting to work, particularly if public transportation options are not feasible 
• Modifications to your vehicle to enhance accessibility for work-related travel 
• Structural adjustments to your workplace environment

Please note that your workplace may encompass your home, particularly if you engage in remote work on a part-time or full-time basis.

Eligibility for an Access to Work grant is not contingent upon your income level. 

Furthermore, receipt of this grant will not impact any other benefits you currently receive, nor will you be required to repay the funding.

You’ll need to give:

• your contact details
• your workplace address and postcode
• information about how your condition affects your work and what support you think you need
• details of a workplace contact who can confirm you work there, if you’re employed (they will not be contacted without your permission)
• your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number, if you’re self-employed

1. A Case Manager will reach out to you.
2. You will be invited to a needs assessment (either at work, or virtually if remote)
3. You will attend the needs assessment, discuss your needs and then a report will be written on what your needs are and what support and resources the assessor reccomends.
4. The report will be sent to AtW to determine the provision and you will be invited to create an online profile.
5. You contact suppliers who provide the provision and resources and then upload e-receipts, photos of physical receipts or invoices to your AtW portal to claim reimbursement.
